Inside a painter’s studio

Brushes in jars, half-finished canvases and a north-facing window: a morning in the studio of a landscape painter.

Painters love north light because it does not change much during the day. The studio we visited had one enormous north-facing window, and everything else was arranged around it: the easel, the table of paints, a sofa for looking.

She paints the same hills again and again, in every season. Asked why, she laughed: because they are never the same hills twice.
