An old stone archway framing boats on a calm bay

Doorways to the sea

Old arches, harbour gates and windows in fortress walls: a small collection of frames for the horizon.

It started by accident: an arch in an old harbour wall, and through it, a bay full of small boats. Since then I look for doorways wherever there is a coast.

A frame changes the sea. It turns a view into a picture, gives the horizon an edge, and makes you stop for a moment longer than you would have.
