- Description: A wooden chair, a good knife, one coat. What a smaller house taught me about choosing.

When we moved into a smaller house, we had to choose. Not everything fitted, so every object had to argue for its place. Most of them lost.

What remained was a strange collection: a wooden chair my grandfather made, a knife I have sharpened for twenty years, one good coat, a few bowls. None of it was expensive. All of it was chosen.

The point is not to own less. It is to know why you own what you own. A thing you chose deliberately, and repair when it breaks, becomes part of your life in a way that a thing you simply bought never does.

> Buy once, mend often, and keep the things that keep you.
